To us, International Relations is more or less what the word entails, the relationship between International governing bodies, ngo’s, mnc’s, etc. The relationship between these different entities provide us with a greater understanding of the formation of social and economic policies, wars, and culture. The relationship between the members of the world community have a lot to contribute to the understanding of IR, and to truly be able to be someone who understands IR,  you must be able to understand different cultures, traditions, and most importantly people. The people of the world play the biggest role in IR as they are the ones who make decisions that affect the world positively or negatively and in essence IR is the study of why people make the decisions they make and how they effect the international community.

The ILD relies on financial institutions such as the World Bank to help fund the economic reforms they propose for different countries. Without the ability to borrow money, there would be no possible way to fund economic reformations. Countries who decide to impose reforms from the ILD more than likely need funding, for the reforms, and hence the world bank plays a role through the ILD.

Ethics and Morality when dealing with the ILD can vary in many senses. Since the ILD is involved in numerous countries all over the world and not just Peru there are different ways in which countries can react to the ILD’s approach in trying to aid their economic programs. For instance, where a country such as Nigeria may be very acceptive to the beneficial econcomic programs that the ILD offers, a country like Indonesia may have a government that is not open or very welcoming to aid from other countries’ economic programs. These differences directly affect the ILD’s overall effectiveness as an organization. The goal of the organization is to help the poorer nations all over the world improve their economy and create beneficial economic programs to help the countries, in a way, stand on their own two feet and function successfully.

As previously described in our last post the ILD, or Institute for Liberty and Democracy, is a non profit organization responsible for developing assets of the poor from the extralegal economy to the inclusive market economy. The overall function of the ILD is to travel to and observe the poor nations of our world and analyze the economy’s malfunctions and how the people interact within this economy. Though the organization is based in Lima, Peru, it is responsible for the development of numerous poor nations’ economies over the course of 25 years. Hernando de Soto, the President of the ILD, is a world renowned economist who has worked with many different governments to implement beneficial economic programs in those countries. In relation to the International System, the ILD functions as a major contributor to the economy of many poorer countries including those in Latin America. The affect of the ILD on the world is extremely positive and will hopefully expand into many other parts of the world to improve the political and economic issues that exist everywhere today.

The ILD, as mentioned in our previous post, is a non profit organization based in Lima, Peru. This organization is an example of an NGO that plays a major part in the economic and political sphere of Latin America. This think tank has emerged as an organization to spur development in the Latin American economy. Many different countries in Latin America run on a black market economy, and the ILD has designed programs and systems to help change this extralegal economy into a free market economy. Many legal systems such as the Peruvian Government exclude ordinary citizens from participating in a legal market. Because of backwards laws, fees, and processes, the Peruvian people are forced to set up makeshift shops and houses and fend for themselves. The ILD would be seen by the liberal theory of international relations as a positive player in the international scene. The theory of liberalism not only allows states to play a role in the international but also NGO’s, IGO’s and other actors. NGO’s are inextricably linked to liberalism because they place power in the individual and organization on a community level rather than a political level. For example, movements which often serve social purposes in a non traditional way coincide with ideas of individual liberty, and the ILD through implementation of economic reforms, experiments, and analysis, have come to uphold the idea of individual liberty as any liberalist would.

The ILD, or the Institute for Liberty and Democracy, is a “non-profit organization based in Lima, Peru, the ILD is an internationally respected think tank that has emerged not just as an intellectual force in the field of development but also as an agent of change in the developing and post-Soviet world in the effort to move the assets of the poor from the extralegal economy into an inclusive market economy.” The ILD, whose president is the world renowned economist Hernando de Soto, has worked with different governments to implement economic programs for their countries. “At the core of the ILD vision is the concept of “extralegality” –that ordinary, mostly poor property owners and entrepreneurs remain marginalized as long as they are deprived of three legal institutions essential for the creation of wealth.” These three institutions include fungible property rights, organizational forms, identity devices. This organization is interesting because it effects the Latin American political and economic systems, and will hopefully one day bring about a positive change that will further develop that part of the world. http://ild.org.pe/en/whatisild

International Relations affect many aspects of our everyday lives. It can limit the things we do, places we go, and future plans. An example of International Relations affecting everyday life would be the limitation we face when wanting to travel. We think we are limited in the places we can travel because of the hostility that some nations have towards the United States and its citizens. For example, if we wanted to participate in a sporting event or educational conference in a country that has ill feelings towards Americans, we would feel uneasy or not be able to attend at all. We wouldn’t want anyone wishing to come to the United States to feel that way, and we are accepting and welcoming of all persons that come to the United States, especially for sporting events or educational conferences. Unfortunately, people place labels and have misconceptions about people because a small few give the rest a bad name. Referring to the September 11th attacks, many Middle Easterners feel unwelcome at home, and when wishing to come to the United States, might face a harder time getting here. We feel that this is wrong and we make sure to not have such attitudes, and in this way we affect international relations.
